They look kind of like Mars lander vehicles that fell over and are trying to get up.

That wobbleplate/swashplate engine types have been used in torpedoes and other applications

On one hand, these don’t look like engines that can be made to a race car’s powerplant. On the other hand, I would love to make these work on an ultra high-performance environment and win Petit Le Mans with it.

I love all of these engines. But of course I would as I own a rotary and a boxer.

I feel like the beck 1909 engine would be great in a car if applied right....

The wobble plate and swash plate designs are used for many an A/C compressor.

Came looking for Deltic; was not disappointed.

There are some questions that are only answered by “Deltic”
Top trivia: Napier designed a square version as well.

It would also perhaps be possible to build a design with an arbitrary number of cranks and cylinders iterated off the isosceles triangle. You might have a hexagonal Deltic-based design with 12 cylinder tubes, 7 cranks, and so on.

There’s a whole lot of oddness out there...

Had they the funds, Napier would probably have tried as well.
Note how the bottom crank rotates in the other direction. They couldn’t make it run properly until someone figured out (using only pencil, paper and slide rule) that they had to do that.
What’s not shown in the gif is that each pair of pistons is slightly out of phase.

Unlike most of the designs shown they actually made these in quite large numbers.
